At UpCloud, youll be building the cloud itself - literally!
Sometimes, cloud technologies can be offered as a patchwork of ready-made solutions. At UpCloud, however, you'll work with something we've built from scratch ourselves. You'll know exactly what you're dealing with, and you'll have an impact on how to make it even better. We offer an environment where fresh ideas and technical discussions are encouraged, and a flat hierarchy is valued.
Our existing infrastructure relies on open-source Linux tools, built with Go & Perl, with a heavy emphasis on moving towards a distributed microservices architecture.
In this job, you will
Build and refine the very heart of our cloud platform! Were talking about a true get your hands dirty kind of role - its all custom solutions.
Your job will focus on working as part of the team developing our cloud infrastructures core components, while making sure the cloud keeps ticking, you will also be working on refactoring our existing solutions.
You will be working a lot with our single repository of core functionalities, and taking part in developing more distributed and modern architecture based on microservices and workflow automation. You might find yourself working with our distributed resource provisioning, developing our public API, or creating solutions for the virtual private cloud.
To succeed, you will need
Understanding and experience of microservices and large-scale automation, provisioning, and building system-level solutions based on open source components running on Linux OSs. And of course, it doesn't hurt to have some exposure to the wide array of cloud technologies and public cloud providers.
- Software development experience in Go and/or Perl
- Experience building or orchestrating Linux-based virtualization, networks and/or storages
- Ability to automate your work and testing with scripting
- A willingness to learn and test new technologies and solutions
- Skills and understanding of agile software development
- Last but not least: a can-do attitude, with proven problem-solving and solution-finding skills
We also appreciate (read: nice to have but less will do!)
- Hands-on experience with Linux server administration, preferably with bare metal or large-scale systems
- Experience with Linux kernel networking (i.e. netfilter, nftables, eBPF, traffic control, network namespaces, etc.)
- Experience with BGP, EVPN or VXLAN deployments and protocols
- Experience in applying CI/CD and other automation tooling
- Experience working with distributed architecture and building microservices
- Understanding of data centre hardware, software, and solutions, especially in virtualization, block storage, and software-defined networking
- Understanding of what customers expect from their cloud infrastructure
- Debugging skills
