Backend Developer - Advertising Automation

THE OPPORTUNITY IN A NUTSHELL
You? An experienced, hands-on backend developer with a proven track record of building scalable systems with an innovative spirit and creative problem solver
Role? Backend Developer joining the Advertising Automation team to shape the future of advertising automation across the Nordic marketplaces.
Tech stack? Kotlin, CI/CD tools, PostgreSQL, and cloud-native technologies.
Company? Schibsted Marketplaces, home of Tori & Oikotie, FINN, Blocket, DBA, Bilbasen, and serving millions of users every day across the Nordics!
Location? Join us in Helsinki, with flexibility for hybrid work: your choice, your balance.
Why us? This is your chance to be part of a collaborative team improving ad operations, personalizing user experiences, and optimizing campaigns for millions across platforms like tori.fi, finn.no, blocket.se, dba.dk, and more. You are also part of a brand-new team, so take your team spirit and initiatives with you!

Sounds like your cup of tea? Check out the details below!

WHO ARE YOU?

  • You have senior and versatile experience in backend development, with a strong foundation and a track record in building scalable and reliable systems using Kotlin or similar languages.
  • You are skilled with CI/CD tools, such as GitHub Actions, and have experience working with relational databases like PostgreSQL, along with API development and data processing.
  • Youre proficient with cloud-native technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes, and have an understanding of security best practices, data protection, and documentation standards like OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • Bonus points for advertising domain knowledge or mentoring experience, but curiosity and a willingness to learn matter most.
  • As a person, you bring a collaborative and inclusive mindset, an innovative and proactive approach to problem-solving, and a dedication to continuous learning.

WHATS THE JOB LIKE?
As a Backend Developer in our Nordic Advertising Automation team, you design, build, and maintain backend services that drive our advertising ecosystem across the Nordic marketplaces. You work on solutions that automate ad placement, targeting, reporting, and even personalised ad generation, making advertising smarter and more effective for millions of users.

Every day, you collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of backend systems with existing infrastructure and third-party platforms. You actively participate in design meetings to align technical solutions with business objectives, ensuring every solution adds real value. You contribute to code reviews, ensuring high-quality code standards and promoting best practices across the team.
You regularly identify areas for improvement in system architecture and address technical debt, balancing immediate needs with long-term goals. You focus on performance and scalability, ensuring our backend services run efficiently and support a growing user base. Projects you work on range from optimising campaign management tools to building systems that personalise user experiences. These solutions play a key role in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of platforms like tori.fi, finn.no, blocket.se, and oikotie.fi.

What does success look like? In your first six months, you deliver backend services that reliably automate ad operations and enhance system integrations. By your first year, you have not only optimised key processes but also contributed to architectural improvements that position our advertising ecosystem for future growth.

The challenge to turn into an opportunity!
Our advertising ecosystem is complex and constantly evolving. Working with diverse platforms across multiple countries, you face the challenge of integrating systems while ensuring high performance and security. This is your opportunity to innovate, learn, and grow as you play a vital role in shaping the future of advertising automation for millions of users.

Moreover, as you are joining a new team with colleagues in Finland and Denmark, while initially things might not be set in stone in terms of prioritization and projects, this turns into your opportunity to start shaping a team environment from the ground up, under the flag of open communication, shared learning, and creative problem-solving!
